World Day of Prayer 2017

World Day of Prayer takes place internationally on the first Friday of March every year. The World Day of Prayer was started by a group of women who “desired to pray with and for the burdens of others, to not live in isolation but to acknowledge we are all God’s children, and to reinforce the aspects of prayer and action as inseparable.”
The host country for WDP 2017 is the Philippines. The women of the Philippines call us to explore concepts of economic justice in both the Philippines’ context and around the world and our response in light of God’s generosity. (Matthew 20: 1–16).
Jesus Christ, you come to transfigure us
and renew us in the image of God:
shine in our darkness.
Speak to the deep places in our hearts and minds.
Jesus Christ, light of our hearts, you know our thirst:
lead us to the wellspring of your gospel.
Help us to seek truth and justice.
Jesus Christ, light of the world, you shine in every human being:
enable us to discern your presence in each person.
Guide us to see your face in all we meet.
Jesus Christ, friend of the poor:
open in us the gates of simplicity so that we can welcome you.
Help us welcome the stranger, to show hospitality to all people.
Jesus Christ, gentle and humble of heart:
renew in us the spirit of childhood.
Jesus Christ, you send your church to prepare your path in the world:
open for all people the gates of your kingdom.
Show us the way to fullness of life;
that our hearts might be filled with joy, hope and peace;
that we might respond to opportunities;
that we might become the persons we are called to be;
that we might learn to respect our sisters and brothers;
that we might see the needs and the gifts of others.
